Our story and inspiration
Mia’s Greenlight Foundation Trust is a registered charity (Charities Commission Number CC56375) that offers transformative life skills to youth, parents and professionals that care for them.
Drawing on evidence-based programmes and practices from the field of mindfulness, purpose development research, trauma, neuroscience, and yoga, we offer innovative trauma informed programmes, workshops, retreats and resources that cultivate greater self-awareness, compassion, stress resilience, emotional balance, healthy relationships and purposeful living.
The integrative tools are transformative because when practiced regularly, they actually change the connections in the brain, strengthening habits and traits that nurture happier, healthier, more purposeful and fulfilling lives.
Greenlight Foundation customises services to meet youth (or those that serve youth) where they’re at. We offer both stand-alone programmes or programmes/ workshops that are a fusion of their practices to youth directly, in schools, via teen parent units, sports organisations and through other non-profits like Peace Foundation. We also do workshops and day retreats with Educators, Health workers and other communities in need like Safer Aotearoa Family Violence Prevention Network, Child Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald.
Our own personal journey (which you can read about under our inspiration) has enabled us to fully experience the powerful benefits of these practices to cultivate healing and recovery from trauma, and to awaken our hearts to engage more fully in life again with greater meaning and purpose.
OUR VISION IS THAT ALL YOUTH HAVE ACCESS TO THESE POWERFUL TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO LIVE HAPPIER, MORE PEACEFUL AND PURPOSEFUL LIVES THAT MEANINGFULLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORLD WE LIVE IN
Our inspiration - Mia
Greenlight Foundation is inspired by the deep love we have for our daughter Mia who passed in April 2013 aged just 2 1/2 years following a short but brave battle with cancer.
Mia lived with such a generous spirit, a cheeky smile and contagious laugh that shared so much joy to us and out to the world. She is always in our hearts and we are so grateful for all she gave us. She taught us what's most important in life and how to live in the moment with courage (she was fearless as many children who pass too soon are!) and to find joy in little moments, whatever the circumstances.
She inspired us to live with loving presence and kindness and showed us little things done with great love can have a big effect. Her wisdom shined through beyond her years, her loving generosity to others in the hospital, her brave attitude and her compassion. I remember in the last week she graced our world she lovingly connected all our hands together (in a circle) on the bed connecting us one by one in silence, to each other. This precious and loving moment of oneness reminded us we are all together in this world and that ultimately love and connections will help us through our suffering.
We thank Mia for gracing our world and for being our guiding light. Not only has she helped to lead us back into the world with meaning and purpose, she’s changed how we choose to live each and every day.
We call this ‘The Mia Effect’ and hope we can inspire you to live with more meaning and purpose and create your own ripples out into the world.
