“Thank you for everything. The class was so much fun & yoga helped me feel so relaxed & calm. Can you come back next week, can we have you come every week!” (Teen mum,TPU)
The tools and practices can be taught as quick brain breaks, within Health & PE classes, tutor sessions, or as a term long trauma informed dynamic mindfulness programme for children or teens well-being.
As a Here to Be grantee, we are grateful to be able to offer scholarships for this programme to schools/ community groups serving rangatahi from disadvantaged areas.

WHY IT’S NEEDED RIGHT NOW
Our trauma-informed Yoga and Mindfulness programmes fill a critical need to nurture children and teens emotional, physical and mental health needs. Every day we read about how our country is in a mental health crisis with many of our youth feeling lost and disconnected. Our programmes and workshops empower wellbeing in line with the Hauora model of “Te Whare Tapa Whā” where the four pillars help us balance and feel whole. We offer direct in class sessions or dedicated weekly sessions with select group of students - including neurodiverse learners.
Research on school-based yoga interventions has increased rapidly through recent years. As a whole, these studies suggest that school-based yoga has a number of positive effects on outcomes such as student mental health, behavior, and performance.
Cultivates inner resources & builds coping skills for stress resilience - grounding, orientating, centering
Cultivates safety and comfort in the body and enlivens energy flow to promote physical wellbeing (Tinana)
Develops skills for self-regulation and emotional wellbeing (through working with Hinengaro)
Cultivates connection and ‘interbeing’, and cultivates greater meaning and purpose (Wairau)
Nurtures community and develops SEL skills that support healthy relationships (Whānau)
Cultivates balance in the nervous system - to cultivate calm and support learning readiness
Enables a release of stored energy / stress (that can get trapped in the muscles/nervous system/ body)
Students develop more compassionate relationship with their whole self - to learn to attend and befriend
Builds student ‘agency’ to counteract anxiety and/or bullying
